Microsoft Already Planning Copy/Paste Support for Windows Phone 7

Though most of this morning’s Windows Phone 7 launch focused on features and handsets that will be immediately available to users, Microsoft still managed to tease some upcoming additions to its new mobile OS.

When Windows Phone 7 was first announced, one major feature omission was the ability to copy and paste. Instead, Microsoft said that it would offer some context-aware options for easily transferring numbers, names and addresses, without the need for a full copy/paste system. That’s changed.

During today’s launch, Microsoft announced that it plans to bring true copy and paste support to Windows Phone 7 in early 2011. This is good news for users that want to take advantage of Windows Phone 7 integration with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Copy and paste is a subject familiar to many iOS users’ hearts. Before the release of the iPhone OS 3.0, the iPhone famously lacked support for copy and paste. Like Microsoft, Apple tried to play off the feature’s importance, but I think we can all agree that the iOS experience was made much, much better after the copy and paste option was finally introduced.

Does Microsoft’s plans for copy and paste change your opinion of Windows Phone 7?
